Children's Day at Museu Kampa

Children and art museums – usually do not go together. Either they stand in front of the masterpieces with a finger in their nose or, on the contrary, they wipe away the invisible dust from the gold-coated frames and cheerfully set off the museum alarm. Therefore the idea to take a child on International children’s day to an art museum seems in the best of cases a bit mischievous and in the worst case scenario an almost complete disaster.

Yet, we invited you and your children to visit us during International children’s day in Museum Kampa. Why should an art museum be interesting for children on the first Sunday in June? Museum Kampa tried to open itself up for the little ones – to entertain them and to teach them something at the same time. If we managed to reach the right constellation of children, parents, good weather, good mood and creative ideas, the children and the museum might have spent the day in a friendly symbiosis.

What did the museum do to reach this goal? It has put on a more interesting coat. You weren't be expected to walk quietly and passively observe. You were allowed to laugh, enjoy and create. You might have been surprised!

There were plenty of activities not to be found on a children’s playground. Try to trace mysterious shadows of an artwork or create a DADA poem! And what about becoming one of the artists, who will decorate the famous glass terrace of the museum with a colorful “stained glass”? You could attend a special Art Tour through the museum or join the free workshop by the contemporary artist Karel Matouš Zavadil, who has let you transfer your silhouette to a large format paper and create a collective artwork.

Besides that you could visit an artistic makeover station and refresh yourself with cookies from the company Odkolek or arty sandwiches by Perfect Catering. Finally, the famous actors Eva Hrušková, who played the sweetest Czech Cinderella, and her contemporary prince, Jan Přeučil, performed an original puppet theatre on the topic of Prague Tales. It seems that there was no time left for a finger in a nose!

WE WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE TO THE FOLLOWING ARTISTS AND SPONSORS who helped us to make this day possible!
